BC is awesome. We know this. It’s why we live here. It’s why anyone who doesn’t live here loves to visit, and it’s why the hit blog Vancouver Is Awesome launched BC Is Awesome earlier today. The newest member of the Canada Is Awesome network, BC Is Awesome is an homage to our beautiful province and its organizations, municipalities and projects. The first BC Is Awesome series is an in-depth look at Victoria’s Royal BC Museum and runs from today until July 10th. Today’s post takes readers behind the scenes (and into a creepy basement) where thousands of dermestid beetles (we didn’t know what a dermestid beetle was before today, either) feed on bird and mammal corpses. The scavengers eat away at the meat until there’s nothing left but a skeleton for museum visitors to admire. How awesome (okay, disgusting) is that?
We might already know how great BC is, but we may have forgotten a thing or two about our awesome history since our last elementary school field trip to the Royal BC Museum. Come say hi to your favourite wooly mammoth and brush up on some interesting facts. The RBCM is open late every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all summer long!
